Job Description

Reports to – Manager of Accounting and Human Resources

Location – Peachland, BC

Job Purpose – The Finance Assistant is responsible for working with the manager of Accounting & HR to ensure all accounting and finance tasks are completed accurately and within deadlines. The successful candidate will help oversee all accounting processes and will record monthly adjusting entries, prepare financial reports, monitor results and assist with forecasting.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the accounting processes including oversight of the monthly general ledger close, accounts payable/receivable, monthly preparation of internal financial statements and reports, daily monitoring of short-term investment and cash balances, ensuring that internal controls exist and are maintained, ensuring the integrity, accuracy and completeness or the general ledger database and recommending improvements.
  • Manage the weekly/monthly preparation of external reports to various stakeholders and assist with analysis of financial variances and forecasting of expenditures to year-end.
  • Assist with preparation of the annual financial statement audit.
  • Coordinate with other departments and staff within the Finance Department.

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 years experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.
  • Advanced word processing and spreadsheet knowledge (MS Word and Excel).
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing demands and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-demand environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and telephone etiquette skills.

 

Preferred skills and experience:

  • IT experience or training would be considered an asset.

 

Education:

  • 4th year student or higher enrolled in a designated accounting program.
  • Completion of Bachelor’s degree or other post-secondary training specializing in accounting, finance or business will be considered an asset.
